LORD LORD
Very often in the courts, the word "LORD" or rather "MY LORD" is frequently used to refer to the judge in the courtroom who presides over a court case.
This title shows reverence to the supremacy of the judge in the premises of the courtroom and most times his decisions/ order are always binding.
On one or two of my visits to a bishop of the Anglican church, the term "MY LORD" has been used severally to describe/ identify the bishop of the diocese (mostly by the clergy though because most of us laity just call him daddy or bishop) and this equally shows the obeisance of the clergy and laity in the diocese that the bishop presides over to the authority of the bishop in that diocese.
The Dictionary defines a LORD as a man of noble rank or high office.
Our Lord JESUS CHRIST equally stands supreme over all mankind.
In Matt. 7:21 - 23, Jesus says;
21. Not everyone that says to me LORD LORD, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22. Many will say to me in that day, LORD LORD, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works?
23. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.
This passage identifies a huge criteria to reigning eternally with the Lord and it equally states that beyond the verbal expressions of calling our Lord JESUS, "LORD LORD", we are expected to do the will of the Father in heaven.
Paul on his way to Damascus in order to continue his devout mission of persecuting Christians was met on his journey by a bright light which signified the presence of the Lord JESUS. At this encounter, he replied to the question asked of him by Christ as to why he was persecuting Him-Christ (the church of Christ), Paul's reply of "who art thou Lord" would remain captivating because at this point Paul understood the supremacy of Christ over all and hence he paid obeisance (Acts 9:19).
Now to imagine that after Paul's encounter and subsequent instructions in ministry, he decided not to do the will of the Father, you would agree with me that he would not inherit eternal life because despite calling Christ LORD, he still chose not to do the will of GOD.
This speaks to us as people of GOD, that beyond bearing Christian names, beyond attending church services, beyond doing church work, doing the set-will of GOD for your life is most important as it guarantees the kingdom of GOD (a domain whereby GOD is king) upon your life.
Our LORD JESUS CHRIST in John 4: 34 identifies the will of GOD for his life as soul winning and He took this assignment as importantly as physical food is to the body.
A major desire that we could quickly identify as children of GOD to be that which the Father requires of us is for us to grow up to the full stature of Christ (Eph. 4: 13), that we stop being children whom are deceived by every thought that passes by (Eph. 4:14, Gal. 4:1). He also desires that we live consistent holy lives (Rom. 6: 19;22, IICor. 7:1, Eph. 4:24, IThess. 3:13; 4:7, Heb. 12:14), we show the love of Christ to the whole world around us thereby reconciling them back to the Father (Matt. 28: 19-20, IICor. 5:18).
The Father also desires that we become agents of change in this world; be light in the darkness (Matt. 5:14), salt in the decadence (Matt. 5:13) and a deliverer of the oppressed (Isa. 61:1, Acts 10: 38).
GOD also expects us to fulfil our ministries and uphold His name (Eph. 4:11-12, ICor. 12:28-31)
John 17:3 defines eternal life as knowing the one and only true GOD and JESUS CHRIST whom was sent. By this we have eternal life.
Rom. 10:9 also adds that by confessing the LORD JESUS with your mouth and believing in your heart that GOD raised JESUS from the dead for you, you shall be saved.
As true as these scriptures are, you cannot claim to know someone, go on confessing Him with your mouth and believing Him in your heart and you won't end up doing His will because if contrary is the case, then it is safe to say that perhaps you never even knew Him in the first place because if you claim you did, what really did you get to know about Him?
Do you just know His as someone that a sect of people (Christians) have decided to follow after or you just know Him as perhaps a political figure and you decide not to subscribe to His party OR you really do know the basis of His creating you and what He expects from you as His creation (some of which have been listed before).
If you really know Him as the author of eternal life and you really do confess and believe Him and hence call Him "ifLORD LORD", then you sure must do His will and His kingdom would be established in you at all times.
GOD BLESS YOU
