Breastplate or bulletproof vest as we have it in our day amongst the armed forces which they put on just directly under the clothes mainly used to protect the chest area of the soldier. In the incident of any attack. For instance, in the incident of a bullet shot, the bullet isn't able to penetrate through this bulletproof vest as that's its major purpose.
Now a thought comes to mind and one could say why does it cover only the chest area?
Why not it rather covers the whole body so that bullets aimed at any part of the body won't find their way across the soldier's flesh.
A quick answer would be the location of the body's vital organs which is mainly concerntrated in the chest area of the body.
Bullet wounds to the hands or legs are not as fatal as that to the chest area. In the chest area is contained the stomach, lungs, kidneys and most importantly the heart amongst other vital body organs and an injury to any of these could spell an immediate death for the soldier, hence the importance of its use.
Permit me to make use of the dictionary meaning of RIGHTEOUSNESS which states that RIGHTEOUSNESS is the quality or state of being righteous; also it depicts holiness, purity, uprightness, rectitude and conformity of one's life to the divine law.
Theologically, RIGHTEOUSNESS is the state of being right with GOD; a state of justification which is the work of CHRIST for us.
Whenever we hear about a righteous man, his obvious outlook and outward demeanor speaks across to us holiness, purity and uprightness. We identify and infact classify him/ her to be in right standing with GOD. This much is true as is expected of a righteous man.
At this point, let me be quick to say that no one attains right standing with GOD on the original basis of their own works, as whomever stands on the RIGHTEOUSNESS of his own works makes CHRIST's death to be in vain (Gal. 2:21).
Holding onto the RIGHTEOUSNESS from our acts of fulfilling the law and holding our hats up to GOD as your criteria to standing right with GOD would be simply sticking up a disgusting/ filthy rag to His face (Isa. 64:6) as no man could truly fulfill the whole law.
This all been said doesn't or rather shouldn't take away our desire to be righteous because GOD's blessings still abound in doing so (Matt. 5:6, 1Pet. 3:14) but you rather instead prefer ignoring the grace of JESUS for you and you try to fulfill the law on your own and gain RIGHTEOUSNESS on your own, one just stands to deceive himself (Titus 3:5, Matt. 5: 20, Rom. 10:3) but a more perfect idea would be to accept the finished work of CHRIST for you, you accept HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS (Rom. 5: 17-18, 2Cor. 5:21) and you let Him to henceforth guide/ lead you onto righteous works. (Rom. 6:16, Phil. 1:11)
Like as earlier established, the function of the bulletproof vest is to protect the vital organs from the penetration of the bullet. Now to understand why the attribute RIGHTEOUSNESS is related to a breastplate is that while the devil fires various bullets in the form of temptations and persecutions the way of the believer all in an aim to see him deny GOD and loose LIFE, rather a right standing with GOD grants the believer sustained life as his vital organs sustaining his spiritual life are not in any way hurt, no matter how many shots the devil may take at him.
In all these said, friends, whenever we find ourselves at the forefront of the battle whereby the devil launches his various arrows and bullets to see us deny GOD's love for us in methods of doubt and faithlessness, always remember the finished work of CHRIST on the cross of Calvary for you as this gives us a sure BREASTPLATE against all the aims of the wicked one ensuring our sustained LIFE.
HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS becomes my RIGHTEOUSNESS, RIGHT STANDING and SURE ACCESS to JUSTIFICATION. . . HALLELUYAH
