PRODIGAL

PRODIGAL
Prodigal refers to being wastefully extravagant. profuse, lavishly abundant, then returning after abandoning a person, group, or ideal, especially for selfish reasons.

Luke 15:11-32 narrates of a young boy who thought to himself, it is proper for me to ask for my own share of my inheritance now, afterall it would be mine eventually. So this he did and seeing it was lawful at the time according to their tradition, the father made no enquiries/rejections and quickly gave to him his own portion of the inheritance.

On receiving this, he departed out into another country and as quick as he received this inheritance from his father he squandered it all on riotous living, perhaps on the assumption that the monies would automatically increase itself, but to his utmost disappointment, this wasn't the case.

Now as fate would have it, a huge famine arose in the land such that to fend for himself now became a big problem. Then survival instincts kicked in and this young man thought to himself, I better throw pride to the wind and gladly receive whatever I can get just to get by daily, this he did and hired himself to a swine farmer, with the sole assignment of tending to the pigs making sure they are well fed. In this job, he tried to feed himself but failed at that too because even the little given to the swine wasn't enough to serve both parties.

At a critical time, he had a brain wave, he quickly thought to himself, my father's servants have plenty to eat such that infact they have privilege also to give out to others from the avalanche that they have and I am here suffering in hunger, I would then go and meet with him if perhaps I could land a job as a servant (obviously the best ever thought he has had to himself in a very long while).

As he had always done with his thoughts, he made this one happen too, and He left for home to pick up the job of a servant if the vacancy was available that is. But as GOD would have it, as he was still a far way apart from home when the already expectant eyes of the Father saw him from afar, he stood up and ran towards his son who in his own conclusion was dead and is now alive, a son who was lost and is now found.

Now even before he could lay out his manifesto on how he could be a good enough servant in the house should in case he was given the opportunity to serve, the Father already promptly ordered that a new robe, ring for his endowment and shoes for his feet and that the fattened calf be killed as there was going to be a big celebration to let the whole world know what the Lord had done for him.

He had an elder brother who had all this while stayed loyal to the Father, infact in his loyalty he was just coming in from the fields when he heard sounds of rejoicing and had to call someone to fill him in on the reason for the celebration and He was promptly told that his brother had returned and their father had killed the fattened calf in order to celebrate receiving him back in one piece. This angered the elder brother and refused to come into the house until the Father came to pacify him saying that all the while all the Father has is his and would always be.

Now, this story we all are familiar with and would equally have many views about too but the major teaching here is that many of us as this younger son have taken of our godly inheritance (salvation) in the Lord and have been deceived into thinking that it still is okay to spend this in living amongst the harlotry (1John. 2:16) that this world offers.

The best feeling a sinner man could ever have is to get liberty and become pardoned from every offense. Truth is that there is no depth of decadence that the Lord cannot renew, this much is true with our Lord even today. No matter how deep down you might have gone in sin, the love of GOD towards you and His blood shed on the cross of Calvary is forever available and capable to save as many as are willing to make the U-turn back from the path of starvation that sin renders and into the loving already-waiting embrace of the FATHER where alone liberty exists.

Being a prodigal child of GOD isn't really the end of the road, at the point in time when you get clarity about the truth that the devil really has nothing to offer but that his interest is to even take of the blessings that you have in CHRIST JESUS (1Peter. 5:8), at this said point you make the most important decision of your life and like the prodigal son, you do a tracking back into the place of love and fellowship with the FATHER and equally very importantly you stay in His love and dictates as they alone are able to keep you from the ravening wolves of this world.

The love that the Lord JESUS has for us as children of GOD is quite unimaginable. How can you have a son, one whom you have worked for all your life just to ensure that He has some form of comfort now and a huge inheritance to fall back to after you might have gone, now to come and request that his portion, both present and in the future be given to him immediately and not just that, he spent it thoughtlessly, because I'm sure that if he went on to invest this inheritance and got plenty in return, he wouldn't have to suffer like he did.

But the love of GOD towards us is not the type we can measure in words, He said that even if your sins are as scarlet, He would make them as white as wool (Isa. 1:18), He simply does not want or better still, He doesn't gain any form of joy from the destruction of sinners but that they would rather turn back to serve Him (Ezek. 18:23) and enjoy life eternally (John. 10:10).

How far off have you gone, perhaps you have never even been a part of Him, you were not born into a Christian family, or maybe you were even born in the church but you know of a certainty that the life you now live isn't in any way an indication to the love of GOD for you shown through JESUS CHRIST. Turn back to Him today, truth is that He is waiting, ready to receive you back, He never rejoices when you stay away but you can be sure that His joy would know no bound when you come back home (Luke. 15:7).

DECIDE AND MAKE THE TURNAROUND TODAY.

GOD BLESS YOU
