TONGUE

TONGUE

 James 3

Hmmmmmmmm, captivating.

This chapter started by identifying that if one is able to not offend in words then such person is considered a perfect man and is seen as one who would be able to control his entire body.

A comparison is then made with the bridle in the mouths of horses and how this helps to direct them properly such that not considering how small the bridle is, it still serves as a caution for the big horse and the horse is led wherever the rider wants simply because of this bridle, same principle also applies to the big ship guided by a small helm.

Vs 5 then explains how even though the tongue is just a small muscle in the body it is capable of such great feats as the bridle and helm.

It's called a fire and a whole world of iniquity, it could defile the body and send the owner to hell.

Though man has been able to tame all beasts in this world, the tongue still remains wild and just as the fangs of a cobra, it is filled with deadly venom.

Funny enough with this same tongue many of us bless God and curse people who are God's image.

With the same tongue we bless and curse, this really ought not to be so because a fountain can't really bring forth sweet and bitter water and even as a fig tree can’t bear olives and vice versa so also a fountain won’t bring forth salty and fresh water.

This says to me that if my words kill it means my heart is filled with the ability to murder since all my words generate forth from my heart.

Verse. 13 states that we would know a wise man endued wt knowledge when his conversation is good and his works show wisdom.

So also a man with bitter envying and strife in his heart should not begin to boast about it and he shouldn't refuse the truth of the matter because the wisdom by which he operates is a wisdom of the world and it's devilish.

Vs.16 then declares that when you house envy and strife, you house the devil who is the father of confusion and every evil work.

We should comply with the wisdom from heaven which is pure, peaceable, gentle, easy to be entertained, merciful, full of good fruits, non partial, non hypocritical.

Also righteousness is shown in peaceful men.

Good question to ask yourself: Am I wise or foolish with the way I use my tongue?

GOD BLESS YOU
