HELMET OF SALVATION

HELMET OF SALVATION

Eph 6:17: And take the helmet of salvation . . .

Formula 1, SBK, NASCAR, Dakar rally fans would be familiar with what an helmet is. I

t's that object like a cap which the riders wear to cover their heads. The objective of this helmet is pretty simply, it's so that whenever the rider is involved in a crash, the helmet cushions the effect of the fall so that the rider's skull isn't crushed on impact.

Permit me to quickly say here that a helmet is a safety gadget and is never intended to make a fashion statement. If you need to wear a fashionable hat, wear one from home and when you mount a motorcycle, remove it and put on an helmet.

Having known this, you just have to burst out laughing when you see people wear helmets like a face cap or as a shade from the sun while on the motorcycle, because what really is the helmet going to do for the rider or passenger as it is in most cases if there is a crash?

Obviously before the rider reaches the ground, the helmet must have left his hand or head and then the force of impact of the skull with the floor would be optimum.

This could lead to the skull cracking up, severe blood loss, sometimes madness because of the distortion in the victim's head and also most times ultimately death.

Factory workers put on helmets to cushion the effect of the impact of a loose and rather heavy falling object with their heads. A factory worker without an helmet is always bad news.

Soldiers also put on helmets for quite the same purpose of protecting their heads from the direct impact of a weapon during clashes with the enemy.

As Christian soldiers, it becomes imperative for us to equally put on a helmet as we go forth in the battle through life.

But because our warfare isn't carnal but spiritual, we wouldn't pick up a normal physical helmet and claim to use it as protection in a spiritual warfare. Such
Christian soldier becomes a joker.

Rather our helmet that serves as a cushion effect when we fall during our rides as Christians is SALVATION.

The English dictionary explains this word to mean the process of being restored or made new for the purpose of becoming saved; the process of being rid of the old poor quality conditions and becoming improved.

From this, one could say salvation is said to come forth whenever there is liberty from captivity.

Hannah received salvation when she was delivered from the captivity of barrenness and she greatly rejoiced (1Sam. 2:1).

Our GOD is often times referred to by men as the GOD of our salvation, especially when HE causes deliverance from a certain evil/ bondage (1Chr. 16:35, Psalm 18:46; 38:22).

True as this is, the salvation we identify as our helmet is the salvation plan offered by JESUS CHRIST upon the cross of Calvary for everyone who believes in Him to become free from the captivity of the devil (Acts 4:12, Rom. 1:16).

Questions to be answered should then be along the lines of how then could one receive this salvation gift of Christ?

Rom. 10:10 quotes that "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

All that is required of us is to believe in the finished work of Christ on the cross, and then we receive His free gift of salvation and then go on to confess Him to the world.

We say salvation is a gift (Eph. 2:8) because for a gift to be received, no payment is usually made; the giver out of his own discretion just decides to give it to the one who receives it. If its something we have paid for then it won't be called a gift but rather a commodity.

The only thing that connects us to this gift of salvation is the faith we have in JESUS CHRIST . . . HALLELUYAH . . .

All in all, friends, the best part of that which the Lord has done for us in His finished work on the cross of Calvary is in the gift of our ability to stand right with GOD.

So as we go on our journey through life and we happen to find ourselves falling and figuratively hitting hard our heads, the helmet of Salvation gets us standing back again.

It is the righteousness of Christ that God sees and He identifies us as HIS own.

When a "Christian" decides to go through the Christian journey on his own without accepting the finished work of Christ on the cross and without the help of the Holy Spirit, then the Christian walk becomes almost impossible to survive in because many times the tendency to hit a hard place occurs and we get ourselves messed up and are like filthy rags before GOD, only the righteousness of Christ could help us stand again. . . HALLELUYAH

So friend, are you really putting on the helmet of Salvation? Please do.

GOD BLESS YOU
